2015: politicians hijack YAD4KOGI programme

Beneficiaries of YAD4KOGI

As part of strategies for the 2015 general elections in Kogi State, checks by Premium Times has revealed the possibility of hijack of the governor Wada initiated Project, YAD4KOGI  Empowerment programme by politicians who are seeking for elective positions from the three senatorial districts of the state.
Impeccable sources close to powers that be informed our correspondent that recent recruitment of beneficiaries of the programme has been done by political office holders who want to exercise some of relevance and authority on their people.
The sources also informed that the initial idea where the state coordinators made slots available to various Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society Groups, have become a thing of the past, adding that some top ranking government officials have taken it upon themselves to look for that are eligible for enrolment.
One of the sources, who do not want their names in print, informed that: “The situation of things as far as Yad4Kogi is concerned that the programme has become a hot cake. Politicians, who were initially not too keen on it, have suddenly realized that the youths would rather embrace such an opportunity, than do nothing.
“It has also become an alternative to what was obtainable where the youths used to wait for politicians to give them money. Now the politicians would rather fix the names of those people than be giving them money. Besides, the present administration has successfully used the programme to curb the issue of thuggery among the youths of Kogi State.”

Also speaking in a chat, the Chief Executive Officer of one of the consulting NGOs told yabagionline.blogspot.com that he is surprised that youths across the state have continued to flood his office to enquire about the Yad4kogi forms, which have not been forth coming.
He stated: “The State coordinator who used to call us to come and take the forms no longer call us and whenever we ask her about it, her cry has always been that the politicians are not allowing the forms to get to her. They rather give her lists to submit for each round of the programme.”
Another politician who informed that the people at the grassroots are yearning for the programme to benefit them bemoaned the prevailing situation and called for the intervention of the governor.
It would be recalled that the executive governor of the state, Capt Idrsi Wada, upon assumption of office, stated his determination to stem the tide of thuggery by addressing the problem of unemployment, hence the creation of the Yad4Kogi programme to promote youth enterprise, self employment and economic empowerment.
