Lokoja residents observe inaugural environmental sanitation

A walk around some strategic areas in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State has shown an all-round compliance with the inaugural sanitation day exercise approved by Kogi State Governor, Capt Idris Wada.
According to the State government, the exercise is to be held every last Saturday of the month. The inaugural one is for the month of October and is to take place between 7:am and 10:am.
The sanitation exercise according to the statement from the office of the Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, became imperative in the efforts of the present administration to turn around the cleanliness culture of the people of the state.
Awoniyi said stakeholders across the state have been mobilised and told to get involved in the environment sanitation to cope with the astronomical growth of daily waste generation in the state. Towards ensuring the effectiveness of the environmental sanitation day exercise tomorrow ,there will be restriction of movement of persons and vehicles from 7.00am to 10.00am. As measures to ensure compliance, security agents have been instructed to arrest those who contravene the sanitation exercise rules, adding that such people will be arraigned before specially constituted mobile courts that will sit tomorrow. Citizens of the states are therefore advised to take the exercise as their civic responsibility and are enjoined to keep their environment and Kogi State clean.
