Catholic Christians during the Eucharistic Procession |
Catholic
Christians in Kogi State University, Anyigba, have joined their counterparts
the world over to mark this year’s Feast
of Christ
the King
to end 2014 Ordinary Time which is celebrated from Pentecost Monday to the
First Sunday of Advent, making it the largest season of the Liturgical Year.
As
a mark to celebrate the day, Catholic Students and staff of the University held
the Eucharistic procession around the campus in honor of the Holy Eucharist, at
the end of which the faithful received blessing from the priest in charge,
Reverend Father Damian Amana.
Speaking
on the significance of the day, the priest called on catholic Christians to be
steadfast in their faith by allowing the teachings of Jesus Christ to guide
their daily lives at all times.
According to him, “If to Christ our Lord is
given all power in heaven and on earth; if all men, purchased by his precious
blood, are by a new right subjected to his dominion; if this power embraces all
men, it must be clear that not one of our faculties is exempt from his empire.
“He
must reign in our minds, which should assent with perfect submission and firm
belief to revealed truths and to the doctrines of Christ. The faithful, moreover, by meditating upon
these truths, will gain much strength and courage, enabling them to form their
lives after the true Christian ideal.”
He
told the faithful that Jesus must reign in their wills, which should obey the
laws and precepts of God. “He must reign in our hearts, which should spurn
natural desires and love God above all things, and cleave to him alone.
“He
must reign in our bodies and in our members, which should serve as instruments
for the interior sanctification of our souls, or to use the words of the
Apostle Paul, as instruments of justice unto God."
Enumerating
the significance of the day, one of the worshippers, told our reporter that
aside honouring Christ as the King of the universe, the day also prepares believers
for the second coming of Jesus Christ, the son of God.
He
added that the day also ends the Ordinary Time Officially and prepare Catholics
for the Advent.
