Finally: hope rises for KSU resumption -VC fingered in the derailment of resumption

THE dingdong affairs that has been going on between staff and management of Kogi State University, Anyigba, seems to be heading to climax with recent information indicating end is in sight on the impasse.
A reliable source in the know of issues surrounding the strike and resumption issues, informed our blog that arrangements have been concluded for the institution to finally resume.
Speaking, the source informed us that the earlier information on some lecturers getting alerts was a hoax created by management of the university and government of Kogi State to quail irate and disgruntled elements among the staff.
He/she said there has been a lot of insincerity and falsehood on the matter, as the Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Hassan Isah, is working in cahoots with some management members to derail the progress of ASUU and NASU’s demands.
The source said majority of the inner staff in the office of the Vice Chancellor and the leadership of the senate, which the VC is head, are getting dissatisfied with the management style of Professor Hassan Isah and want him out.
“Most of the staff, both teaching and non-teaching, want the Vice Chancellor sacked because they see him as the cog in the wheel of the institution’s progress. They seriously want him to be removed”.
The problem with that demand however is, according to the source, the government of the state, aside the politics, sees Prof Isah as an important resource in the management and sourcing of regular funds from the coffers of the institution.
The informant says: “You know this government is one that has a knack for managing the meager resources at its disposal and so, sees the VC as the right person to help it in effective running of the revenues generated and expended in the system”.
A member of the Non-Academic Staff Union however has different views from that. As far as he is concerned, the praises being heaped on Prof Hassan Isah is undeserved, because he is as corrupt as anyone can be.
According to the NASU member: “The problems of the School are deep-rooted, most of you (members of the public) only see what is on the surface, but underneath lie more trouble for the institution that would  take it several years to address.
“We want him removed to pave the way for somebody who can work for the progress of staff of the university, academic or non-academic. We don’t want him but since he is dancing to the tune of government”.
But another member of the school’s management who does not want his identity made public exonerated the Vice Chancellor of all allegations, saying Prof Hassan Isah is the best thing that would ever happen to the institution.
According to him/her, the problem with some staff of the university is that they allowed themselves to be used as tools in the hands of some self-seeking senior staff that have selfish ambitions.
The source opines: “Some members of staff are ill-informed by some senior staff have axe to grind with the VC. Their grievances stem from the inability of Prof Isah to allow them a free-reign into the coffers of the institution.
“If you look at it candidly, the school has made more progress that you can refer to as gains since the VC’s assumption of office than any previous leadership in the institution since inception.
“We hav e achieved progress in Information and Communication Technology (ICT); all General Studies Courses (GST) exams are written electronically, so also the post-UTME exams for both Direct Entry and fresh Degree programmes”, he concluded.
