Plateau Civil Servants Embark On Indefinite Strike

Plateau State civil servants yesterday abandoned their duty posts in compliance with the strike action declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) chairman in the state, Jubril Bancir.
Government owned establishments were observed to have their activities at a standstill as workers did not turn up for their duties.
A visit to the state secretariat revealed that the gates were all locked and there was full compliance with the strike.
It would be recalled that the Plateau State NLC had recently directed all its affiliate unions and workers to commence mobilisation for a strike at the expiration of its ultimatum to the state government
which expired on Monday.
Jibrin Bancir, the state chairman of NLC gave the directive while briefing newsmen recently on the occasion of the 2015 Workers Day.
He said labour had negotiated for a long time with the state government for the peaceful resolution of their dispute but without success.
Bancir said workers had several issues that had lingered over the past years in spite of their effort to have them resolved.
He had listed some of the issues to include outstanding arrears of minimum wage, non-payment of salaries and promotion of staff.
