
As part of efforts to coordinate and standardise the operations of online journalism in Kogi state, practitioners have come together to elect individuals to pilot their affairs on pro tempo basis for the next six months.
The body is called I-Reporters Association of Kogi State (IRAKS). They have, in their inaugural meeting, which they had started on some online platform, elected Mr. Opeyemi Owoeye, the editor of Kogireporters.com as chairman.
Also elected was Ambassador Yunusa Gabriel Enemali, while three persons also emerged as vice chairmen for east, west and central. Comrade Martins Enebe (Vice Chairman West ), Isiaka Adeiza Alex (Central) and Alhaji Musa Tanimu Nasidi (Vice Chairman, West).
Others include:Comtade Umar Yakubu Ali, General Secretary; Mohammed Yabagi, Treasurer;
Atuluku Victor Levi (Publicity Secretary) and Wale Mustapha (Auditor).
Speaking after the election, the chairman, Mr. Opeyemi Owoeye called on online reporters in Kogi state to rededicate themselves to their craft, saying that their type of journalism has come to stay.
According to him, even the traditional media such as Radio, television, newspapers and others have realised the importance of the new media, hence their resolve to also have their presence there.
He said in few years from now, online presence would become mandatory for virtually all media platforms and outlets, and called on the public to accord necessary respect to practitioners.
In his words: "Online journalism has come to stay. Even those practicing in both hard copy newspapers and magazines as well as others, will come back to embrace the online form of journalism practice. To break news grounds and make the news available to the public on virtual and on demand is through online reporting."

With the ongoing drainage project in lokoja metropolis, it is apparent it has almost turned lokoja into a town of filthy because of the heap of refuse dumped by people on the road side and pedestrian lane are most times washed into the main road when it rains heavily, thereby leaving lokoja in an appalled state.
Obviously, the Wada administration has made a giant stride by embarking on this drainage project, history of Kogi state that will embark on such huge project that will affect positively the lives of its citizen for decades to come.
Consequently, it is expected of everybody to play their roles ensuring we don,t heap our road sides with refuse to avoid a situation that rain will wash into the main road. It is not all the time that rain will wash it into the main-road. It is not all the time we expect Government to do it for us; its high time we start thinking of what we can do for the ourselves and possibly the government.
Meanwhile, people can start patronize private waste disposers, this will go a long way to curb this problem. Private waste disposers are not expensive, they are quite affordable, some collect one thousand a month and others even collect less than this amount should stand as a barricade. When these dirt properly dispose in due time, we will not only have clean enverroment but it will also facilitate the dramage project.
Apart from the private wast disposers, resident can cultivate the habit of regular waste burning, this will help to keep the wastes at built and it will consequently disallow a disarrays of refuse been liter around.
Many of the high way in lokoja metropolis have also not escape the damage cause by running water as the road littered with heaps of refuse dumped by the road ride, thereby causing obstruction in the free flow of water channel.
Careful, observation shows that, most residents are careless with the way they go about disposing refuse designed areas like Bishop Delise, paparanda square, kabawa area, lokogoma junction and Ganaja Ajaokuta is an eyesore not just for those that resident in lokoja , but also for visitor who are on transit that play through the roads of lokoja.
The geographical location of kogi state in the ma of Nigeria is one significant based on the fact that it connects the south and the north, as a result of this, lokoja is a well known city in Nigeria, and it will not be wise to portray lokoja in a bad light.
Subsequently, calls have been made by private and government agencies on the needs to keep our environ clean, to avoid environmental hazards that could be detrimental to human live but only a few have heed to this advice, while majority are heedless.
As a measure to keep lokoja clean, recently Kogi state governor Captain Idris Wada engaged in refuse cleaning in some parts of lokoja as a means of encouraging residents of lokoja to follow suit

The wife of Kogi State governor, Hajiya Halima Ladi Wada has admonished new couples to build on legacies of their parents in order to safeguard the names built over the years.
Mrs. Halima Wada dropped this hint at the family compound of senator Dr Ahmadu Ali,former chairman of PDP and currently the chairman,Board,National Universities commission(NUC),at his maitama residence in Abuja where he gave out his daughter,Khadijat Ahmadu in marriage to Abdulmalik Ibrahim Ogohi,son of Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi,the former chief of defence staff.
She further stressed that families that are united together remain strong and advised the young couple to always work , think and take decisions together not minding any interferences.
The wife of the governor stated that a lot of blessings abound in marriages especially when operated according to the tenets and dictates of the holy books. She also urged them not to be distracted by those who may want their union to hit the rocks and should not permit third party in their marriage.
While congratulating the couples and their families for their display of maturity and understanding in all ramifications, Mrs. Wada identified a lot of challenges in marriages, but advised that with prayers, patience, perseverance and reflection of how the two families came together for the sacred union will be their bane.
Earlier, the Ejeh of Ankpa,Alhaji Ahmadu yakubu expressed joy at the union, saying he feels so much fulfilled seeing marriages of well to do children from the same extractions and tribe, he therefore advised other Igala sons and daughters to emulate the two prominent people's decision.
The wedding attracted prominent Nigerians among whom are, the Kogi State governor, capt Idris Wada, state governors, former governors, former ministers and other past public and political office holders.
Adavi people told to support Governor Wadas administration
THE people of Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State have been called upon to support and work for the success of Governor Idris Wadas administration in a bid to offer more people-oriented projects for the development of the area.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the local government area, Obeito S H and made available to The Graphic Newspaper.
According to the statement, the call was made by the Senior Special Assistant 1 in charge of Adavi council area, Hon Adams Momoh while addressing Adavi Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Local Government Executive members, PDP ward chairmen, ward women leaders and youth leaders at Ogaminana.
Momoh in the statement called on the party executive members to be steadfast and ensure that the policies and programmes of Governor Wadas administration are executed in their wards to the benefit of the people
He assured that his administration would partner with them to reposition PDP and register more members so as to make the party unbeatable in the coming governorship election in the state.
On their part, the Senior Special Assistants 11 and 111, Hon Benson Aliba and Hon Ohida Sule respectively pledged team work and asked the people and staff to join hands with them to move the council forward.
Responding on behalf of the others, Chairman of PDP in the local government area, Hon Ibrahim Ochu lauded the state governor for the appointments of the Senior Special Assistants and pledged the unalloyed support of the executive members of the party and the people to their administration.
Meanwhile, the new Director and Head of Local Government Administration for Adavi council area, Mr M P Bello JP has solicited for staff cooperation, support and prayers to enable him reposition the local government for effective service delivery and move the area forward.
Bello, who made this request while taking over from the former DLG of the council, Alh Ohere Lazeez, called on the staff to be diligent in the performance of their works.
Speaking at the handing over programme, the branch chairman of NULGE, Comr Muhammed Isah commended the former DLG of the council, Alh Lazeez for implanting the promotion arrears of the staff and called on the new DLG to strife to make positive changes that will be beneficial to the staff and move the council forward.

Adavi L G inaugurates revenue taskforce committee
THE Senior Special Assistant 1 to the Governor of Kogi State in Adavi Local Government Area, Hon Adams Momoh has inaugurated a new Revenue Taskforce Committee with a charge to the members to bring to bear their wealth of experience to harness and tap the revenue outlets for the progress and development of the area.
In a statement issued and signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) Obeito S H and made available to The Graphic Newspaper, the charge was made during the inauguration of the committee in his office at Ogaminana.
The SSA1 called on the staff to be diligent and accountable in the discharge of their duties so as to boost the Internally Generated Revenue of the council, according to the statement.
Hon Adams Momoh told the committee to carry out their assignments in constant with GEM3s provisions and work hard to check leakages in revenue collection in the area.
He then named the Senior Special Assistant 11, Hon Benson Aliba as chairman with the Local Government Treasurer, Head of Departments of Works, Agriculture, Information Officer, Llegal Officer and Zonal Inspector as members while Revenue Officer will serve as the Secretary.
Momoh commended the initiative of Governor Idris Wada in harmonising all taxes collected in the state to avoid double taxation of the citizens, just as he urged the committee members to brace up for the challenges ahead.
Responding on behalf of members of the committee, Hon Benson Aliba promised that would work to justify the confidence reposed in them.
He called for logistic supports for the committee to enable them meet some of their challenges in performing their duties.
