Tremor: Authorities in KSU set record straight

CONTRARY to what was described as tremor at the library of Kogi State University in a recent report, management of the institution has debunked the story, saying that what happened was the “puffing” of the floors of the library. Acting Librarian of the institution, Mr. Paul Idachaba, who made the clarification in a chat with our reporter said the wheezing noise was what set fears in the students leading to pandemonium which resulted in injury to a number of students. Asked what might have caused the “puffing”, Mr. Idachaba said it was due to the swelling of the tiles on the floor, and said that the library was safe for academic learning for the students. He said on hearing the wheezing sound from part of the floor, the students, probably out of fear of what was experienced in the past when the same thing happened decided to run out of the library without finding out what was really happening. “None of the students in the library tried to find out what was happening on hearing that puffing sound from the tiled floors; they just took to their heels, some of them, out of fear, ran into the new shelves and shattered the glass which got a number of them injured. “It was nothing like a tremor because tremors don’t occur on spots like that. If it was tremor, you would see the walls and parts of the walls cracked. But it is not so as you can see.” The Librarian, who conducted our reporter round the library to see how everything happened, assured members of the public that management of the university was doing everything within its powers to ensure the safety of their children and wards. He said when the support building of the library is completed, which he said would be soon, it would assist in decongesting the main building as a number of students would be doing their studying there.
