Coach Adewuyi expresses satisfaction with Confluence Queens performance

Confluence Queens Chief Coach Shola Adewuyi has expressed satisfaction with his girls' performance in their week 6 Nigeria Women Premier League 2-0 defeat against Rivers Angels in Port-Harcourt. The match played at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium on Saturday according to Shola was his girls' best performance so far this season even as it ended in a defeat for the Lokoja based club. Confluence Queens created a couple of chances in the game and even had a 3rd minute goal scored by Emenike Ijeoma disallowed. They had a penalty not given following a handball in the home team's box. Rivers Angels went in front in the 46th minute through an Arit Itu's penalty that amazed everyone at the Stadium as there was no contact or better explanation on what led to the spot kick awarded by centre referee Ekpe Julia from Edo State. The homers sealed the points through centre back Osinachi Ohale's late goal. "I am very satisfied with the way we played against Rivers Angels today (Saturday). The girls gave a good fight, it's just unfortunate we had nothing to show for it because we were not allowed to play, but it's our best game so far this season," Adewuyi told Confluence Queens Media. "Our first goal scored by Emenike Ijeoma was disallowed even though it was a good goal, and a controversial penalty was awarded to the home side (Rivers). I hate to complain about the match officials but if we continue like this, our football won't grow." "Rivers Angels are rated as the best team in the League but the game today(Saturday) didn't reflect that, football should be allowed to be played openly. Sponsors can only invest in the League if we improve on the level of officiating," he said. The Yahaya Bello girls will return to Lokoja to face Taraba Queens on Friday in the week 7 and Adewuyi believes his team will bounce back strongly. "Our focus is on our home match coming up on Friday against Taraba Queens. We need to get the maximum points in the game. We will not relent in our efforts to get more points away from home, the battle continues." Adewuyi concluded The Lokoja based side have only managed five points from five matches in the ongoing Nigeria Women Premier League season.
